Storage
Storing rose hydrosol: fridge myths, light exposure, and pump hygiene
Natural hydrosols are delightful and perishable. Good habits extend the window where they smell true to the flower.
Does it have to live in the fridge?
Cool storage slows many degradation pathways; it is not mandatory for every formula if you finish the bottle quickly and keep it away from heat. The fridge is sensible in warm climates or for preservative-minimal products — but read your brand’s PAO (period after opening).
Light and air
UV and oxygen alter delicate notes. Amber or opaque glass beats clear glass on a sunny vanity. Close the cap immediately after use.
Pump and mist heads
Atomizers can introduce finger bacteria from the actuator. Wipe the nozzle occasionally; avoid sharing bottles in households with contagious skin conditions.
When to discard
Cloudiness, off smell (vinegar, wet cardboard), or skin irritation after previously fine use are signals to stop — even before a printed date.
Packaging philosophy at DAMASK.MA
We care about materials that protect the hydrosol in real bathrooms, not just on a mood board — part of why glass and careful handling matter to us.
